Cambio Vita means “change of life.”
For Shaan and Stefano, it is a name that reflects much more than the restaurant. It represents a new chapter — one they chose to build together, from the ground up.
Stefano moved to Melbourne from Italy, bringing with him a deep connection to the food, traditions and way of life he grew up with. Shaan was born in Melbourne, but with Italian roots and a strong connection to the culture, food and traditions that have always been close to her heart.
Their story began in the place where so much of their life would eventually come together — an Italian restaurant in Melbourne, where they met while working in hospitality.
What started there grew into a relationship, a shared life and, eventually, a shared dream.
After years of working in restaurants and hospitality, they decided to take a leap and create something of their own.
Neither had ever opened a restaurant before. There was no large hospitality group behind them, no investors and no team of people who had done it all before. Cambio Vita was built by Shaan and Stefano, from the ground up, with their own hands, their own ideas and a lot of hard work.
From the building and the atmosphere to the menu, suppliers and smallest details, every part of Cambio Vita has been shaped by them. It has been a learning curve, a risk and, at times, a little bit terrifying — but most importantly, it has been theirs.
Set inside a beautiful old Victorian building in the heart of Malvern, Cambio Vita is a reflection of the life they have built together. Warm, welcoming and intentionally a little imperfect — a place that feels lived in, rather than simply designed.
At the heart of the restaurant is a genuine love and respect for Italian food.
The kitchen uses the best ingredients Shaan and Stefano can find, with many of the products carefully sourced and imported directly from Italy. From Italian pantry staples to the ingredients that give their dishes their character, quality is never something they want to compromise on.
At the same time, they believe that great food should have a connection to the place it is being served.
That is why their fresh vegetables are sourced from local independent shops and suppliers wherever possible. Supporting small local businesses matters to Shaan and Stefano — because they know firsthand what it means to build something small, independently and from the ground up.
The result is a menu that brings together both sides of their world: the Italy Stefano grew up in, the Melbourne Shaan was born in, and the life they are creating together.
Handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, carefully sourced ingredients and dishes inspired by the places, people and memories that have shaped them.
Because for Shaan and Stefano, Italian food has always been about more than what is on the plate.
It is about sitting around a table with people you love.
About staying longer than you planned.
About a bottle of wine opened without much reason.
About food that brings back a memory before you even realise it.
Cambio Vita is the result of two lives coming together and creating something completely their own.
A restaurant built without a blueprint, without a hospitality empire behind it and without anyone else telling them what it should be.
Just two people, a shared love of food, a lot of hard work and a belief that it was worth taking the chance.
